The Reverend Kathryn Percival, a former property barrister, became officially instated in December 2013 as the new vicar at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Lingfield. Rev Percival is the first female vicar in the parish’s 700-year history.
Rev’d Percival lives in nearby Limpsfield with her husband and enjoys the deep relationships that form between people within smaller parishes.
She studied Philosophy and Theology at Oxford and Law at Cambridge before becoming a successful lawyer. But the desire to work for the church has been with her since university.
“The sense of calling has been around since age of 20 and it wouldn’t go away. In the end God grabbed me by the scruff of the neck. And now I find it a great joy to do what I do. It’s very varied: no two hours are the same. You get to experience people’s highs and lows with them. I hope I can be a worthy successor to the role.
